Basel
In 2013, I spent some time in Berlin during my semester at the University. I was looking for a challenge. My friend Peggy visited me in November. We were looking for events that would challenge us when a flyer caught my eye. On the back it said 100% interaction. There we go: awkward participative theatre. When we arrived at Sophiensaele where the event was taking place, we were separated. Quite excited now. Two hours later I decided: SMC will expand.
After I left Berlin, it took us a while to get ready. SMC Basel premiered on Labour Day 2015 under the majestic dome of the old Markthalle. The group includes artists, students, actors, cooks, an autistic teenage band, and a wooden shed for two. We maintain our own rituals, swear the blood oath, the shed ceremony, the food performance and the final speech – always somewhere different; in a gym, the Kunsthalle, at church, or in the Grand Hotel.
