Johannesburg
Fewer people came to SMC Johannesburg than SMC Cape Town, but there was more intimacy and openness. It was a safe space, which offered the guests a place to feel confident in the game, to be brave and feel the momentum that had been created throughout the evening. Later, it became an open mic. The Joburg team reaffirmed why we were there. We had a little dance at the end; shook it out.
Sunday, we all flew our separate ways. What a phenomenal whirlwind. What an amazing work ethic, and commitment to the process from everyone involved. The trust in us, and the trust in making something collaborative and productive, that goes beyond an art event and into how we engage with one another on a day-to-day level. It is a simple lesson. Sometimes I have something to give. Sometimes I really just need something. And the one need not be reliant on the other. You are allowed to give and you are allowed to receive – unconditionally.
