It seems to me that Social Muscle Club is an act of psychological resilience, training the ability to adapt positively to life’s tasks in the face of social disadvantage or adverse conditions. It was important to me to bring this model to the Viennese art scene. It’s a scene that faces the same kind of problems as any other in the old ‘Western’ world; project funding, budget cuts, no money for touring, etc. etc. I believe that resilience is something we should develop together – not as individuals – in order to face up to the conditions we are living in. Among many other things, that’s precisely what Social Muscle Club does.
